Science, Technology and Development

I am passionate about agricultural science and technology and innovation to support sustainable agriculture and rural development. I believe that agricultural growth linkages are a strong determinant for rural development and sustainable development and must be supported by effective agricultural research. My main areas of research interest are in agricultural biodiversity, conservation and utilization, crop improvement and pest management and participatory approaches for technology development. I have researched and published widely in these areas. I am also interested in agriculture/environment interactions and the impact of climate change.

I have interests in science and technology (S&T) policy for countries of the South especially how it influences and supports capacity building and enhancement. This includes the development of crop and scientific networks and collaborations of scientists and organizations in the South with their scientific counterparts in the North. I also have interests in the applications of ICTs for sustainable agriculture and rural development. Currently I am on the Review Board of the International Journal of Education and Development using ICTs. I was also Senior Editor of the Journal of South Pacific Agriculture from 1997-1999.
